THE NIKE DUNK RAINBOW

Emblematic of basketball courts, skate parks and high streets alike - the Nike Dunk lives on, in every rainbow color. Though it’s a style with a lot to offer, the black and white dunks are not what you think of when you think of the classic b-ball-come-skater style. For the Dunk, Nike partnered with key players in the underground skate scene instead of celebs and mainstream brands. It brought out endless exclusive colorways for independent skate boutiques. Despite all of this, the Dunk’s simplistic style hit the mainstream and stayed there, helped out by the fact it was offered in so many colorways The most remarkable part of all this? It’s done this without losing its cult status in the skateboarding community. Respect to the Dunks.

The style has been popular ever since, competing with other classic basketball shoes like the Jordan 1 before swapping hoop for half-pipe. Skaters adopted the Nike Dunk low as a firm new ffavoritethanks to its top-drawer cushioning, traction ,and support.

In 2001, the Dunk was taken on by the Nike SB line, adding more padding to the insole, more grip to the sole and that iconic fat tongue. This brings us closer to the Nike Dunk we know today, in all of its many iterations.
